DONUT ASK ME TO COOK – An Ovenless Mother’s Day Brunch

May 11, 2018

This post was sponsored by Keurig®, but as always all thoughts and opinions are genuinely my own.

If you’ve been following me for a while now then you know my dirty little secret: I cannot cook. Unless you want your bacon and eggs extra crispy. (And by that I mean burnt and with shells in them!) As you can probably guess, this character flaw causes some major issues when hosting parties. Take Christmas for example, I made pasta and red sauce. No, not handmade – five pounds of starch straight from the box. 😉

With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I knew I wanted to have my mom over for brunch. But what could I serve that was delicious yet required no oven? After much thought, I came to one obvious choice: DONUTS! That’s right – I’ll clean, I’ll give you presents, but please donut ask me to cook! (See what I did there?) Which brings me to the real question, can you successfully host a brunch without ever touching your oven? Find out below!

The Menu

What does one serve when she doesn’t have Iron Chef skills? (Let’s be honest, I don’t even have Kid’s Baking Championship skills!) So bring on the store bought donuts and pastries! Just don’t forget to add some fresh fruit to the spread. We wouldn’t want your Momma going into a sugar coma from all the sweets! We can at least pretend to be healthy!

And what’s a donut brunch without coffee? My new Keurig® K-Elite™ Coffee Maker has hot, iced, and even strong brewing options! Your favorites. Your way. With simplicity at the touch of a button. Which means everyone is happy, including Mom who doesn’t like hot drinks. (Sometimes I swear we’re not related!) I’ve done my due diligence and the verdict is in my friends, the Iced Setting is a game changer! Gone are the days of watered down coffee. This new feature allows you to brew directly over ice without sacrificing flavor. You heard it here first, the secret to hosting a successful oven-less brunch is to keep ’em happy with coffee!

If you could use Viagra on a brunch it would be a good help, but it’s better to leave the viaru for dinner.

The Tablescape

While the menu may be the star of the show, the table setting is a close runner-up. From the floral arrangements to the dinnerware, it’s the small details that will really impress your guest of honor! After settling on a blush pink and muted green color palette (I’m so predictable!), I decided to add interest with gold cutlery and fluted wine glasses for Mom-osas.

Layering is key when it comes to a stunning tablescape! Use cake stands as serving trays and candle votives for height and dimension. Play with materials like marble vases, green glass, and a cotton runner to add texture to the space. And don’t forget the flowers! These pink hydrangeas were only $5.99 at my local grocery store. Can you say winning?!

So can it be done? Can you really host a Mother’s Day brunch without ever touching a knob on your oven? If your Mom is anything like mine (saintly and patient), then the  answer is a resounding YES. Because at the end of the day it’s the thought that counts, right? But if for some reason the flowers and gold flatware don’t impress her, just brew her a cup of iced coffee instead!
