Marie Kondo has officially taken over the internet; inspiring people to rid their homes of anything that doesn’t spark joy. While I am fully on board with her methods, I decided to start my new year by refreshing instead of reorganizing. Here are four small design changes that will make a big impact in your space without ever having to thank something for it’s service! 😉
1. Rearrange Your Furniture
Same furniture, new layout! It is possible to make a room feel brand new without ever having to spend a dime. By moving my Parocela Panel Bed in between the two windows, I maximized the walking space, freed up an additional wall, and even had room to put my fig in front of the window! (Priorities.)
2. Change the Artwork
Art makes a HUGE statement and periodically changing it keeps your walls feeling fresh! Shop your house and use artwork that you already have. Thrift for inexpensive pieces. Or find the perfect wall decor when you sort by color, category, and trend at Joss & Main. Avoid making more holes by using command strips and propping large scale pieces on top of furniture!
3. Invest in a Special Piece
With the dresser no longer in this area, I wanted to create a reading nook. (For the 5 books I currently have going at the same time.) I took to my stories and asked YOU to vote on which chair you liked best: The Joey or The Ophelia. 70% chose the Ophelia, so obviously I went with the opposite. 😉 In the end, comfort outweighed design and I’m so happy that I invested in a special piece to help transform this corner! And can we take a minute to admire the Hepler Floor lamp that adds the perfect modern balance?
4. Update Your Bedding
Sometimes all you need to refresh your room is new bedding! Make a drastic change with pattern and color. Or play it safe and stick to what you know! For me, that’s WHITE DUVETS – because they’re easy to remove and bleach when Opal gets them dirty. This Microbrushed Duvet Set is super soft and brings just the right amount of “hotel-like sophistication” to my space.
Hot tip: Size down in your duvet! I used a queen cover for my king insert to make it look fluffy and full!

Hey Emily – can you share where your bed side tables are from? They are fab! Thanks
